A trailing pilot vehicle can’t just tail the load quietly. It needs to tell oncoming drivers something’s coming they can’t yet see. This sign does exactly that. Fitted to a pilot running behind an oversize load, the Wide Load Follows sign warns approaching traffic before the load itself rounds the corner. Get the direction wrong and you’re using the wrong sign. A leading pilot needs “Wide Load Ahead” instead.

Where it’s used
- Fitted to trailing pilot vehicles escorting oversize loads over 3.1m wide, alongside flashing roof lights and other required signage
- Loads over 3.1m wide need a Class 2 pilot at night or above 40km/h
- Loads over 3.1m wide or 4.3m tall need NZTA sign-off for toll routes
