It tells oncoming drivers a wide load is following before it’s anywhere in sight; critical on narrower rural stretches where there’s little room to react. Use this on the leading pilot only; a trailing pilot needs “Wide Load Follows.

Where it’s used

Loads over 3.1m wide need a Class 2 pilot at night or above 40km/h
Loads over 3.1m wide or 4.3m tall need NZTA authorisation for toll routes
